"002 Untitled" - Boulder, Colorado
Sticks, wire, string, nails, hot glue, pinecones. 5' x 4' x 4'. 2016.
Following Hesen's theme, this piece forces viewers to question their relationship with nature asking questions like why a manmade "tree" is situated in the middle of the courtyard. Hoping to bring beauty to something that has already gone through its lifecycle and demonstrate that life can be represented and recycled.
Tree Revival Series
The Tree Revival series aims to bring life back into dead trees through an artistic light. Dead tree branches and other parts of trees are gathered and reassembled to create a new tree form. The sculptures sit in nature in a manner that is clearly made by man, but can also assimilate into the natural landscape. The focus of this project is show that nothing is dead forever and eventually everything gets recycled back into the earth.
"001 Stick Stack" - Boulder, Colorado
Tree branches, leaves, sticks, log. 25' x 10' x 10'. 2013.
Stick Stack was built on the top of Chautauqua mountain in Boulder, CO. This tree revival focused on a sense of emergence as the sculpture seems to emerge from the ground and protrude into the viewer. Line and movement play a large role in this sculpture with the vertical stacks meeting the horizontal roots to create a sense of balance.
